Finances & Fees

Posted: August 30, 2010 in About the University

All international students who are granted admission into the Islamic University of Madinah are given a full scholarship that provides:

  • Free tuition
  • Free, furnished, shared accommodation for bachelors
  • Free transportation between the campus and the Prophet’s Mosque (صلى الله عليه و سلم) at specific times each day
  • ONE (1) free, round-trip plane ticket to visit one’s home country each year
  • Regular monthly stipends of 840 SAR, which is equivalent to approximately $225 CAN
  • Free medical care
  • Free use of recreational facilities on campus
  • Stipend bonuses for those who achieve academic excellence in their respective faculty

As of yet, the university does not properly accommodate or support the needs of married students.

Although the scholarship covers all basic costs, it is highly recommended that one saves some money prior to beginning their studies in Madinah if they have the ability to do so. This is largely due to the fact that most Western students arrive in Madinah expecting the same comforts that they lived with back home – but shortly after their plane touches down, many of them face disappointment. A safety cushion of cash could contribute a great deal towards protecting new students from the negative consequences associated with culture shock. Furthermore, sometimes the monthly stipend is delayed, which can be problematic for those who are completely dependent on it.

As a final note, the application process as well as some of the administrative aspects of the post-acceptance procedures will cost a few minor fees that the university does not cover.
